Hello moviegoers. Is that a word? ..."moviegoers"?
Well it is now.
Anyway, my name is Michael Wolf. I used to be one of the most revered
employees at Cinemark Theaters. Now I only make cameo appearances from time
to time. I'm a animation/film student at Rutgers in Camden...but enough about
me. You want to read about the movie.
Battlefield Earth...hmmmm....ok well, I thought it was very
entertaining.
It's a heroic story set in the year 3000 in which the human race has become
overrun, or conquered if you will, by a warlike race of humanoid aliens from
the planet Phsyclo. Phsyclo... what an appropriate name for a bunch of crude
characters whose resemblance to Klingons cannot be overlooked. I mean dread
locks, come on. Don't get me wrong though. I thought they looked great, and
the creature effects were very good. The bad guys in this case rule over the
humans and use them as slaves. They assume that they are far superior in both
strength and intellect. However, as in the film The Planet of the Apes, the
bad guys discover that those whom they rule over possess much more potential
and cunning than they suspect.
As in a lot of heroic action films, there are two main
characters. One is
easily admired for his bravery, strength, and will to survive. The other is
likewise feared, hated, mocked, and sometimes...sometimes likable. John
Travolta of course plays the mean Psychlo. His performance was not too unlike
that in Broken Arrow. I'm guessing a lot of you have seen that. He comes
across as very cocky and sure of himself. He has a lot of good lines and is
very believable. But that is to be expected from such a big star. The hero is
played out very well by a new actor. I'm not sure what his name is.. sorry. I
guess next time I'll have to do more research won't I. Hey, it's my first
review. Nevertheless, whomever did the casting for this movie did a first
rate job. Then again, the characters aren't that deep. I mean, what can't
they do nowadays with 12 hours and 12 pounds of latex? Am I right? Come on
people! Seriously...if you don't see this movie there's something wrong with
you. No for real this time...check it out, and if you liked Planet of the
Apes, Broken Arrow, Independence Day, any of the Star Trek movies, or
Stargate, then you'll probably like this one. I'm not saying that it's just
like any of those films, it's just that there are several similarities
between them. *But... remember to always look at any film you watch as if
it's the first one you've ever seen. This way you'll always be able to find
something good about it, and you won't feel like you've wasted seven dollars.
Have fun! :P
