In life there are many obstacles thrown our way. The object is how we deal with them after we overcome them, which is the difficult part. For Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) his life is rule by the clock. The company he works for demands it, he is a FedEx system engineer. Just like a doctor he is always on call, his fast pace career takes him all over the world.

Often at a moment’s notice and away from his girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt who has been in everything this year) during a family gathering he gets beep for another assignment. Before he leaves he say goodbye to Kelly and tells her he be right back, but he will not. Because Chuck busy life has just ended cause his plane crashes over the ocean and Chuck becomes isolated on a remote island Castaway into the most desolate environment imaginable.

Chuck is loosing everything we take for granted, food, water, shelter as the island Is home for the next four years. He has figured out hot to survive but chuck is a consummate problem solver eventually figures out how to sustain him physically. Just when he though he would never get off fate has other plans for chuck and give him a way back to civilization. But then he is face with a bigger challenge than before how do he resume the life he had before since he has been gone for many years. As Chuck find out that surviving is easy it’s living that’s is difficulty.

If you are looking for a good story, life threaten moments in the film, a bit of comedy, romance, good actor and actress look no farther Castaway has it all and a bag of sand.

Castaway is directed by Robert Zemeckis who brings his style and grace to Castaway and made it an outstanding film. Here are some good and bad points of the film.

Good

  1. They story was good.
  2. The cast did a good job even so Tom Hanks was the only star for about 1 hr 15 mins while he was on the island. Tom did a great job of playing Chuck the island guy. He was very believable and did the part perfectly. Helen Hunt did a good job as well, but she wasn’t in the film a longtime as her other film this year.
  3. The location was good the island look good.
  4. The ending was a good ending. It was not a typical Hollywood ending.
  5. The story within the story was good there was a couple of them one involving a FedEx box with wings.

Bad Points

  1. The trailer does give away a lot of the film esp. the ending. They should not have given so much away in the trailer. Watch the film first and then the trailer.

Overall Castaway was a very good film. It the kind of film that makes you be glad for what you have. The acting was good, watch Castaway come Oscar time it will get some nominations. Everyone should see this film it is worth the price of admission but remember do not look at the trailer first.
