Mission Impossible 2

A Film Review by Paul Perkins

****

This is your movie if you choose to Watch it

Well it that time of the year again when the studio sends out their big guns or should I say Movies. Well how can they start the summer season with a bang? Well they will hired one of the best action directors of the last 10 years John Woo that has made some great actions films. Like Broken Arrow and Face off and now he can add this movie to the list.

This is your mission moviegoer. The mission will be called Mission Impossible 2, which is the sequel to the 1996 hit Mission Impossible. Which stars one of the biggest actors of the decade Tom Cruse reprising the role of Ethan Hunt. The story concerns the quest of an ex-secret agent, Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott), to obtain samples of both the killer virus Chimera (Which is like the AIDS virus but faster) and its antidote from the scientist who created them for Biocyte Pharmaceuticals in Sydney, Australia. Once he has the virus, Ambrose plans to unleash it in the streets of Sydney and get rich as his stock options in Biocyte skyrocket, since the drug company will be the only one producing the antidote.

Of course this cannot happen so Impossible Mission Force (IMF) with the new boss Swanbeck (Anthony Hopkins), calls on his best Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) while he was on Vacation climbing Mountains. Give him his next mission.  Which is to get the virus back and stop a mad man from destroying all man kind.

Swanbeck tells Hunt to recruit Ambrose's old girlfriend, Nyah Nordoff-Hall (Thandie Newton), to spy for the IMF. On this mission, Hunt brings along his old friend from the first movie, Luther (Ving Rhames), and a new partner (John Polson). Complications occur when Hunt unexpectedly falls for Nyah, and WHO would not.

They say that sequels are usually not better then the first one well let me say that Mission Impossible 2 is much better than the first one. Mostly because of John Woo he is doing his best work here. The way he does the fight scenes using slow motions with the kicking and  puching scenes. And let me tell you for all you wrestling fans out there they have some wrestling movies in here. They way John woo does his shot they are outstanding he uses every weapons in the books and the racing scenes are breathtaking I don’t what to give away too much of the film.

The soundtrack, which features a Hans Zimmer score, will make you feel the movie while you are watching the film. Usually Woo choreographs his action scenes like ballet. All way through to the last Great Fight/Chase Scene, which features motorcycles zigzagging through traffic and ends with one of the most longest but great hand-to-hand duel that only Woo could do in a film.

The supporting cast was great Ving Rhames does great like he did in the first one but little more funny in this one. Newcomer to the series is Thandie Newton who was so good in the movie as well as being one most beautifully actress I have seen in a while next to Nia Long and Halle Berry. There was also John Polson who was also good in this movie. The main star of course is Tom Cruise which of course was good enough said on that and there is Dougray Scott (Sean Ambrose) who was a good villain and supporting cast member.

I told you the good things about Mission Impossible 2 now let me tell you the bad things, which there is only a couple of thing. First is the begging of the film with the mountains scenes now way he could be climbing the mountains with no cables and make it to the top only in the movies. Second is the scene with Ethan and Sean in a cave where did the mask come from. And the last thing for all you actions fans out there the first 70 minutes have some action in it but don’t get mad because after the first 70 minutes you will need to hold on to your seat.

You may say that Mission Impossible 2 reminds you of a James Bond film. The Bond Series should ask John Woo to directed the next bond film it will give the series a much needed burst.

Well to wrap up one of my biggest reviews to this date Mission Impossible 2 is a great action film and it starts the summer seasons off on the right foot. Everyone go see this film now you will like it a lot. And remember this review will self destructed in 5 sec 4 3 2 1.
