A Film Review By Paul Perkins (Film Info Click Here)
Classic Sandler At His Best
Imaged if you are the only family left in a Multi billon
dollar company. Your uncle has just died that you never met and he left you
everything a 40 billion dollars fortune. What would you do?
This is the question that Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler)
is face with. In Mr. Deeds Adam is as simple guy that everyone in his tiny New
Hampshire town called Mondrake Falls. He owns the only pizzeria and is trying to
be a greeting card maker. But he life is about to change.
A long lost relative Preston Blake (Harve Presnell), has
left him an inheritance of 40 billion dollars along with a chain of media
outlets, a football team and many other things. With all that money comes people
trying to take what is yours as it happing to Deeds but he is still the small
town guy.
Comedy films I think are the hardest things to film. It
takes a lot to make some people laugh what make me laugh my not make you laugh
and vice-versa. There are may great comedy actors out there like Eddie Murphy,
Eddie Griffin, and Mike Myers. There is one comic actor who has been in the
business for a while. Most of the film he does are slapstick comedies his name
is Adam Sandler..
He does have some good films under his belt like The
Wedding Singer, The Waterboy and then there is one of his worst
little Nicky. But Mr. Deeds is a much improvement of Little Nicky and is
like his other good films. The story was good the film is based on a 1936
Classic called Mr. Deeds goes to Town. That stared Gary Cooper. I
haven’t seen the 1936 version but this version is very good. Adam is no Gary
Cooper but he is good for his time as was Cooper is his time.
This is a typical Adam Sandler film he does a good job in
this film. I am kind of surprise by the way he acted. As well I was surprise by
Winona Ryder who was also good in her role and she look good thank god. It some
of her other film she look like she never eats.
The film did not drag at all and it held my attention from start to finish. The jokes were very funny and there was a lot of slapstick stuff. But you expect that in an Adam Sandler film. They did not get boring or played out. One of the funnies ones is with John Turturro a great actor in his own right. He was good in this film. This summer if you are looking for a good comedy look not further Mr. Deeds is one film you should not miss add it to your list of must see films of the summer.
