Phone Booth

A Film Review By Paul Perkins         (Film Info Click Here)

This Call Make It A Collect Call

You walk down the street you hear a public pay phone ring, do you pick it up or do you just let it ring?  Image if the person on the other end of the phone is a mad man who says if you hang up he will shoot you? What would you do? Would you hang up or do what ever the person says on the phone says.

For Stu Shepard (Colin Farrell) his life revolves on the phone he is a publicist. He will do anything for his clients. One day Stu thinks it going to be a normal day when he goes into a pay phone to call his girlfriend. The Phone rings and of course if you hear a phone ringing you has to pick it up. But this is one call Stu wishes he never answered.

But this phone call is by an unknown caller who tells Stu if he hangs up he will be shot dead on the spot, the caller tells him he has to obey what ever he says, but with the police on the scenes trying to get him out the phone booth and the caller telling him he will shot him if he exits. It going to be a decision Stu has to make.

Phone Booth is kind of like Cast Away because it centers on one character for most of the film, Cast Away was an island and a better picture, Phone Booth is just that a Phone Booth. Well the story was ok kind of a cool idea but it hard to have a actor stand in one place and act.

Colin Farrell is no Tom Hanks; Colin does an ok job in Phone Booth. It not the acting I did not like about the film, it some of the script. In some of the screen which they show in the trailer a man getting shot in front of the Phone Booth can the police see how he got shot and from what angel he get hit from. In another screen there is hookers screaming so much that it get annoying that when I seen this film some one scream sit down lady.

This film leaves unanswered questions and you wonder if the script was better this film could be as good as Cast Away but it is not. Two good thing I can say about the film one is the film is very short 1 hr 20 mins and the other the trailer does not give away the ending of the film like Cast Away did.

Overall I should have given Phone Booth 2 and ½ stars but since the idea of the film was a good idea and the film is watch able, but with flaws I will give it 3 stars.
