Birth

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
DIED AT BIRTH
I read somewhere that Director JONATHAN GLAZER had a hard time completing this film, facing delays and complications, reshoots and months of editing. He admitted, 'The film needed to be thought about carefully". He said he had a hard time connecting the dots. Well, as far as I'm concerned, they were never connected and he didn't give enough thought. The finished product is lame, dumb and goes nowhere. The ending is the biggest cop out I have seen since Mystic River. The story concerns a young widow (The overrated NICOLE KIDMAN) who two years after losing her husband, he died during jogging in what has to be one of the most ridiculous scenes ever, is getting remarried. Her groom to be is very successful, DANNY HOUSTON, from this years Silver City). During a party, she is approached by a ten year old boy, CAMERON BRIGHT, the only real actor in the film, who claims to be her dead husband reincarnated. At first she is annoyed and disbelieving. As time drags by, along with this mess, she becomes convinced and starts to fall in love again, while we squirm in our seats. There is one laughable scene where she shares the bathtub with him.. "What are you doing" she asks, as he climbs into the tub. "Taking a bath with my wife" he answers, as the group of teenage girls I saw it with burst into a fit of laughter. The ending has got to be the dumbest, lamest endings ever put on film. As the end credits started to roll, the girls yelled to the screen, "This movie is retarded". I had to agree. Oh, along for the ride is the legendary LAUREN BACALL as Nicole's Mother. Lauren, do you need the money that bad? SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
