Christmas with the Kranks

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

  HO HO HO

While not as funny as, shall we say,  National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation,  CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS  has some very funny moments.  TIM ALLEN in his third Christmas movie ( The Santa Clause 1 & 2)  along with JAMIE LEE CURTIS ( who proved she can handle comedy very well in Freaky Friday) play the Kranks, a couple who are adored by their friends in their suburban Illinois community. Why? you ask. Because of their over the top devotion to Christmas every year. They have a huge party every Christmas eve and everyone is invited. The house is decorated with hundreds of lights. there is a seven foot Frosty The Snowman on the roof just dazzling the street. But this year will be different, they are skipping Christmas and using the money to go on a cruise. Their only child, their teenage daughter will not be there for the holiday. She is leaving for college. It won't be the same. The town is in an uproar, how can the Kranks abandon them. There will be no Christmas eve party, no Frosty, They are labeled the Scrooges.   Never is this movie boring. It is fast paced and at times very, very funny.     It teaches us that because things don't always go our way, we can still be there for others.  The screenplay is by CHRIS COLUMBUS (Home Alone) from a story by John Grisham titled Skipping Christmas. Joe Roth (America's Sweethearts) helmed the Director's chair.     This has got to be around longer than Surviving Christmas. Do you remember that one. Better yet, did you even see it?    SEE YA AT THE MOVIES   CLYDE
