MIKE NICHOLS is a gifted director. He gave us "The Birdcage", "Working Girl", and "The Graduate" to name a few. Now he offers us "CLOSER" with a great cast, JULIA ROBERTS, JUDE LAW, NATALIE PORTMAN and CLIVE OWEN. All very fine actors. Why they chose to appear in this trashy film is beyond me. It is a story of cheating, betrayal, and sex, sex and more sex. Now don't get me wrong, I am far from being a prude, I don't mind sex at all, but if I am watching a movie, I would also like story. Not just a bunch of characters talking like trashy, sex perverts just for the sake of sensation. I always thought of Roberts as a class act. Why would she stoop to this? Law is all over the place this year, looks like he just wants to work. Portman, a very pretty talented actress is the only reason to see this junk. Owen is married to Roberts, but she is sleeping with Law, who is cheating on Portman. They all talk like porn stars. I understand that Cate Blanchett was to have the Julia Roberts role, but had to drop out because she was pregnant, lucky her. The film was adapted from a stage play and it still looks like a stage play. Wait for the video. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
