National Treasure

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

 DECLARATION OF ADVENTURE

NICOLAS CAGE is a likable natural actor. He does comedy and action well. I first saw him in 1983's Valley Girl. as the boy from the other side of the tracks. I was impressed. Since then he has done a lot of films, including many action, adventure movies with producer JERRY BRUCKHEIMER, including The Rock and Con Air.  Now we have NATIONAL TREASURE, a fast paced action film from the same team. the story involves a 2000 year old treasure that according to clues can be found on the back of the Declaration of Independence. There you will find more clues, and more clues, and more, well you get the point. Cage plays Ben Gates, an idealist who believes that the treasure is real.  JON VOIGHT is Patrick Gates, his Father who thinks the whole thing is nonsense. The story takes us to a Government office where Ben and his partner Riley Poole, a very funny JUSTIN BARTHA, try to convince the lady at the desk that the declaration will be stolen. Ben knows that treasure hunter Ian Howe, SEAN BEAN is after it for personal gain. As no one believes his  story, he decides to steal it himself, thus starting an action packed, edge of your seat adventure where everyone gets involved, including the girl from the office played by DIANE KRUGER..  The trip takes us around Philadelphia and New York City.    There are touches of Indiana Joes and Mission Impossible, but this is not a bad thing.   So set back and take the ride  and have fun.        SEE YA AT THE MOVIES    CLYDE
