A SWIMMINGLY TALL TALE
"SHARK TALE" is one of those wonderful, simple little animated movies that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. And why not?, it's sent to us by DreamWorks, the same studio that gave us Shrek 1 & 2. They are becoming the studio to watch, now that Disney has lost Pixar. Our story concerns a little loser fish named Oscar, who has a big mouth and nothing to back it up with. Oscar is voiced by the very capable WILL SMITH. It also concerns a mob fish godfather, Don Lino, voiced by who else but ROBERT DE NIRO.
Now the Don has two sons, on who will follow in his footsteps, who he is proud of, and Lenny, (it's a very funny JACK BLACK) who wants no part of that life, is a vegetarian, and friends with Oscar. One day, an accident occurs, killing Don's pride and joy. Things get all confused and Oscar is given credit. Everyone hails Oscar the shark slayer, which Oscar eats up. Now he is on the hit list of the Don. Along for the ride are two lady fish who have their eye on Oscar. His very lady like girl friend (RENE'E ZELLWEGER) and the very vampy lady of little moral values (ANGELINA JOLIE). Then there is Don's right hand man who can do nothing right, voiced by the famous director, MARTIN SCORSESE. Now I grew up with what I call real animation, where cells were drawn by hand and you took one frame at a time, like flip books. But I know this is the time of the computer and I know it must take a lot of work and skill to make this kind of animated film, so I tip my hat to all those involved. This film is a fine piece of work. I hope DreamWorks stays on this track. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
