Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles         (Film Info Click Here)

TAKE OFF FOR ADVENTURE

Take a little Flash Gordon, A little Star Wars, and a little Indiana Jones, and you come up with  SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, a rousing old fashion adventure taken right from the pages of the old pulp magazines. The story takes place in a highly stylized New York City, circa 1940 where a sinister, evil scientist is busy working on a doomsday device. The city is full of giant robots bent on destroying mankind. We need help, and right away. Who is there? A call goes out, "calling Sky Captain, calling Sky Captain"  Then, out of the clouds comes this World War 2 fighter plane, an old Flying Tiger as they they were called, with a hero pilot saying into his radio, " Sky Captain coming in". Just like the old Capt. Midnight TV. show.  Sky Captain is played by a very affective JUDE LAW.  He is joined is his adventure to save the world by his old love, Polly Perkins (GWYNETH PALTROW) and his ever present sidekick, Dex (GIOVANNI RIBISI)a along the way he runs into another friend, Franky (ANGELINA JOLIE, sporting an eye patch, and she still looks great.

The film was directed by KERRY CONRAN, who also wrote the story. The film is beautifully  photographed, with the magic look of the 1940's comic books. The effects are some of the best I have seen lately. The film was shot entirely on London soundstages against a green screen with effects added later, it turned out just fine.  Relive the good old days of adventure, or live it for the first time, but give yourself a treat.    SEE YA AT THE MOVIES     CLYDE.
