Taxi

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles         (Film Info Click Here)

STOP THE METER, LET ME OUT

When I heard that a movie called TAXI was being released, I was hoping it would be like the very funny TV. series that starred Danny Devito. Boy, was I wrong. This movie doesn't even come near it. It's one big mess.  The film opens with a motorcycle  speeding down the highway, jumping cars, landing on top of a truck, you know, all the normal things you see on I 95 during rush hour. As it pulls into a garage the driver rips off her helmet. It's  QUEEN LATIFAH, who I love in movies,. So why did she agree to this farce? It turns out she is a messenger, and this is her last day on the job, she has received her papers that enable her to fulfill her dream, to drive her own taxicab. I know a few cab drivers who will ask why? Her coworkers give her a going away present in the form of a super charged cab right out of a James Bond movie. The next day she is driving the streets of New York City, when she is stopped by the most ridiculous cop ever, a stupid cop that we had met earlier as he bungled a few jobs, like trying to stop a car that results in a huge car pile up with cars flying in the air. This cop is played by JIMMY FALLON, from Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update.  Tell me, why do the movie makers think that the comedians? that do short skits on S.N.L. can carry their own movie?  Look at Chris Katain in Corky Romano. Of course, this cop takes our poor hack driver on a fast and furious chase pursuing bank robbers who we find out are really beautiful girls in disguise. One of the girls is played by super model, GISELE BUNDCHEN. If history repeats itself, this will be her first and last movie role. The ride through New York IN this cab is scary and dangerous, just like a real cab ride in the big apple.        The very pretty JENNIFER ESPOSITO plays the head of the police pricinct where officer Fallon  works, gets suspended, then is fired. Of course, just like in all the other films about male and female cops who work together, they were once lovers, it must be a law that this is written in the script.       The most embarrassing role in this stinko is Fallon,s mother, played by the once sex kitten, ANN MARGRET.  Yes, the same Ann Margret who sang and danced with Elvis in Viva Las Vegas and  melted my heart in Bye Bye Birdie.  I think she made a complete fool of herself. Does she need the money that bad?      This whole mess was directed by Tim Story who did the funny Barbershop. What happened?    Stop the meter, save your money.    SEE YA AT THE MOVIES     CLYDE
