The Grudge

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles         (Film Info Click Here)

A REAL SCARE MOVIE

Well, it's almost Halloween and time to be scared out of our wits. I have the movie for you. "THE GRUDGE" is a throw back to the haunted house films, films without blood and gore and torn limbs. So if you are looking for a Chainsaw Massacre or a Dawn of the Dead, you will be let down. But if you really want to jump out of your seat a few times, this is your bag.  SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR is an American exchange student living in Tokyo with her boyfriend, (JASON BEHR of TV's Roswell0   She's assigned to care for a disabled older woman who, to the girl's dismay, lives in a house that is haunted by poltergeists that are a result of a brutal crime that took place there. We have a doomed teacher (BILL PULLMAN), a hissing black cat, a blank faced child, and a long haired woman. And they all hold the key to the secret of the house. Like The Ring, this is an American remake of a Japanese film. They have both survived the transformation very well. This film is directed by the original Japanese director, TAKASHI SHIMIZU   It' s almost like when they took the original Godzilla and added Raymond Burr for the American viewers.  I guess SARAH M. GELLAR  is becoming our new scream queen, replacing Jamie Lee Curtis. There was Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer..    The film made me jump and gave me chills quite a few times, One of the only other films that grabbed me like that was The Changeling with George C. Scott.  Rent that one for a good scare.      SEE YA AT THE MOVIES    CLYDE
