A Film Review By Clyde Ayles (Film Info Click Here)
IT'S A TAKE
When the director of a movie yells "It's a take", he means that he is satisfied with the scene he has just filmed. My judgment on this film is, It's a take". The movie is very funny from beginning to end. The story concerns a young man, who along with his brother writes a screenplay about their sister who died of cancer, This would be screenwriter, played by MATTHEW BRODERIOK, the star of so many hit movies. He dreams of one day making this story into a major motion picture, with possibly himself as director. Now at the same time, the F.B.I. is trying to find something on mobster Tommy Sanz, played by TONY SHALHOUB, from the hit T.V, series Monk. They come upwith the idea of sending an agent out to pretend he is a movie producer, this way they can con Mr.Sanz into backing their film, there by keeping an eye on him. They choose F.B.I. agent Joe Devine (the great ALEC BALDWIN ) to carry out this project. He finds Steven Schats (BRODERICK) and convinces him that he will green light his project about his sister.
Along for the ride is a dippy girlfriend of Schats who wants the starring role, playing the part of his sister. This part is perfectly played by CALISTA FLOCKHART of Ally McBeal fame. Then there's porn star Emily French played by TONI COLLETTE of Sixth Sense fame. She wants the lead role. As the movie progresses, the locales are changed, the names are changed, and the whole thing turns into one big mess. Then comes the big moment, they will film the opening scene with Steven as the director. Well, they never get past that first shot, when they are invaded by the F.B.I. The jig is up. They have their man, no need to carry on. It's a bittersweet moment when Joe Devine is revealed as A F.B.I. agent and not a real movie producer. Steven Schats' world comes tumbling down around him. Two years later the two men meet again. Will they work things out? For that answer my friend, you will have to see the movie. Also in the able cast is RAY LIOTTA (Goodfellas) and JAMES REBHORN (Cold Mountain). The film is written and directed by JEFF NATHANSON, who also wrote the two "Rush Hours" and the hit "Catch Me If You Can". SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE.
