The Princess Diaries 2

A Play Review By Clyde Ayles

A DELIGHTFUL HOT FUDGE SUNDAE WITH EXTRA SYRUP

Watching  P.D.2, ROYAL ENGAGEMENT" is like enjoying a sweet treat when you are on a diet.  Your adult friends say "you are really seeing this movie?"  And you say, I just did, and enjoyed every minute of it. Sure, it may be geared to young girls. But the production is so well done, thanks to director GARRY MARSHELL, that anyone can go away with a smile and a happy thought. Add a generous dose of ANNE HATHAWAY &  JULIE ANDREWS, a sprinkle of  HECTOR ELIZONDO, a dash of  JOHN RHYS-DAVIES, and  add the rest of this talented cast, and you have a truly wonderful treat. In the first "PRINCESS DIARIES"  Mia Thermopolis (Ms. Hathaway) was sent to her Grandmother (Ms Andrews) only to be told that she was really a Princess. In this follow up, she is getting use to her position, although still very clumsy and unsure of herself. But now she learns that she is in line to be the new Queen, as her Grandmother is retiring. The catch is that , according to an old law, she must be married first. The search for a husband is on with some very funny results. There is some very fine comedy moments that involve two maids, Brigitte & Brigitta, Played by Shea Curry & Anna White.       ANNE HATAWAY is very talented, and a fine comedian. She is surprised at the large audience for the PRINCESS DIARIES movies. But why not, she is pretty enough to appeal to the young men, and just to see the talented actress JULIE ANDREWS on the screen again is well worth the admission price. As I mentioned, GARRY MARSHELL is the Director,  Mr. Marshell is the man behind such hits as "PRETTY WOMAN", "RUNAWAY BRIDE," RAISING HELEN" to name just a few of many. He is also the man behind the LAVERNE & SHIRLEY & HAPPY DAYS TV. shows. The soundtrack should please any young CD collector. There are songs by the likes of  RAVEN, AVRIL LAVIGNE ,PINK, & many more.  Also, look for a funny cameo by STAN LEE at the wedding party.

Well that's it for now.       SEE YA AT THE MOVIES    CLYDE.
