A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
ALMOST THERE
Are We There Yet is not an Oscar worthy film, but then it isn't meant to be. It does what it is meant to do , entertain and keep you amused. It concerns sports shop owner named Nick, (played by ICE CUBE, who has a likable screen personality). Nick discovers that across the street from his shop the Party Store employs a beautiful lady named Suzanne( the pretty NIA LONG). Much to his dismay he finds that she is a divorcee with two kids, and Nick hates kids. Still he plans on getting closer to this lovely lady. The kids, 11 year old Lindsey and 7 year old Kevin ( ALEISHA ALLEN and PHILIP DANIEL BOLDEN ) will do anything to discourage the men who want to date their Mother, they want her to go back with dad. Well it seems that Suzanne has a New Years Eve party planned in Vancouver with the father taking the kids. But he claims illness and backs out. So Nick tells Suzanne that he will take the kids to Vancouver to be with their Mother. This does not prove to be the best idea. The kids set out to destroy Nick. They destroy his shiny new Lincoln Navigator, in every way you can imagine and some you can't imagine. The whole journey involves truckers trying to stop Nick, thinking he has kidnapped the kids. It involves a wild horse ride, a mix up of trains, a run in with dancing snowmen, and anything else they can think of. Sort of like a Road Runner cartoon. There are some very funny scenes, but there is something missing. Of course you know that it turns sentimental at the end I thought the kids were adorable, There is also a running gag that involves a Sachel Paige bobble head on Nick's dashboard. Very cute.
