A WINNER ALL THE WAY
Put the movie "Lean On Me" and put it on the basketball court and you have "Coach Carter". Now this is not a bad thing, both films are very good. But thanks to SAMUEL L. JACKSON who plays real life coach Ken Carter, who in 1999 suspended his Richmond High basketball squad for failing to live up to their academic standards, even though they were undefeated. He canceled all future games until they made their grades. This did not set well with the school board or the parents. But Mr. Carter fought all the way. He took a group of inner-city castaways and turned them into winners, both on and off the court. They passed all the usual challenges, like drugs, absentee parents and a society that writes them off as teenage hoodlums. Included in the cast are RICK GONZALEZ, ROBERT RICHARD, and ROB BROWN. All very good young actors. The film is directed by THOMAS CARTER ( no relation to the coach ) who employs all the ingredients needed to put this on the level with "Hoosiers" and other great sports movies. But it is Mr. Jacksons performance that puts this film on the top of my list. But then, he always makes his movies better than others.
