Dark Water

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

ONE SCARY MOVIE

"Do you want your skin to crawl and jump out of your seat a few times?   Then I suggest you go see "Dark Water", the new release by Touchstone Pictures. This is one scary haunted house film and it is by the same author who gave us "The Ring".    The story centers on Dahlia Williams (JENNIFER CONNELLY, Academy Award winner for "A Beautiful Mind") a young mother who moves with her daughter Ceci (ARIEL GADE, who is perfect in the role) to a sprawling, broken down housing block on Roosevelt island to escape a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband (DOUGRAY SCOTT) As if an old rickety elevator and the towers creepy noises weren't bad enough, the ceiling and walls start to leak. When Dahlia complains to the landlord (Academy Award winner JOHN C. REILLY) that it is coming from the upstairs apartment, she is informed that no one lives there any longer. The mother had died and the little girl vanished. She is also faced with a very strange caretaker, (PETE POSTLETHWAITE), who refuses to fix anything until ordered to. As she starts to investigate the upstairs to find what is causing to strange leaks, she finds that things are not what they seem.      She enters her little girl into nursery school run by a very nice teacher (CAMRYN MANHEIM) who becomes concerned when Ceci starts talking to a new imaginary friend who turns out to be the little girl that lived upstairs.         The film grows into a really suspense filled film that has many surprises. I bet you will check your ceiling when you get home. There are some moments that will bring "The Ring" to mind. WALTER SALLES did a superb directing job. Take your nerve pills with you, you may need them. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES   CLYDE
