A Film Review By Paul Perkins
Dark + Creepy + Scary = Goosebumps
Finding a good Horror film is a hard thing to do Esp. when there has been some bad ones that came out like Alone in The Dark, Hide and Seek, Boogeyman and Hostage. You may be saying to yourself Hostage trust me it a horror film, it’s scary to look at.
But when a horror film comes out that is scary as well as make you jump you will be happy that you seen it. The Ring was one of those films that made me jump and I thought it was great. Well the person who wrote The Ring is back this time the film is called Dark Water and it will also make you jump.
It all begins inside Apartment 9F. This is where a single mother, Dahlia Williams (Academy Award® winner Jennifer Connelly), is trying to make a brand-new start in life. Attempting to escape from a bitter custody battle with her estranged husband, Dahlia moves with her daughter Ceci to a dilapidated, sprawling housing block on Roosevelt Island at the very edges of New York City. Their new home provides little refuge. The rundown tower’s creepy noises, rickety elevator and sinister dark water stains are eerie enough. But Dahlia soon begins to suspect there is a far greater threat.
Just who or what is it that is playing mind games with Dahlia—and can she trust her own senses when her imagination is also running wild? As Ceci’s ghostly encounters and an array of strange occurrences continue to build, Dahlia suddenly must question who she can trust and in what she can believe. But she will stop at nothing to figure out the riddle and protect her daughter…even as the dark water closes in around them. A world of familiar household objects, moods and emotions is transformed into a realm of relentless menace and dread in Dark Water as the mystery unfolds.
Dark Water was one creep film the kind of film that will give you the Goosebumps, I know I had them. The story was very creepy and dark it does reminds you of the Ring film that came out couple of years ago. I like the idea of the film how the mother is trying to make a better life for her and her daughter and the place she lives at is haunted. I always like those haunted movies because they are very scary, but it not the bloody type scary that a lot of slashed horror films are it more of the suspense scary which is far better.
The acting was good esp. by Jennifer Connelly who you feel bad for because of the problems she is going through. Also the supporting cast was also great in their roles. The only thing I like about the film was the setting the apartment complex had that eerie looks to it which made the film creepier. The film was jus the right length it did not get boring at all and it did not drag at all. The ending of the film was good a lot of horror film has bad ending but this one did not.
Overall Dark Water was a nice thriller and if you like to get the Goosebumps at the theater then this film is for you even if you don’t still check out this great film.
