Guess Who

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

THIS IS NO REMAKE

Some reviews about 'Guess Who", the new film starring BERNIE MACK and ASHTON KUTCHER, are calling it a reverse remake of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. Wrong!!!!!!!! You can't compare diamonds to glass. These two are certainly not Spencer Tracy and Sidney Poitier. This is a cute, sometimes very funny movie. Ashton is Simon Green, a white man who plans to marry Theresa (ZOE SALDANA), a pretty black woman. They are taking a trip to meet her parents, Marilyn (JUDITH SCOTT) and Percy, (Bernie) who will be renewing their wedding vows. They plan to announce their engagement to her parents. This does not set well with Percy.  As mentioned, there are some very funny scenes, such as Percy spending the night in the same bed with Simon to keep him away from his daughter. One of the big problems here is they keep reminding you about the black and white issue. Believe me, we get it. Bernie Mack is such presence on the screen that sometimes Kutcher gets lost in the same scenes. Be sure to stay for the end credits. Kevin Rodney Sullivan (Barbershop 2) directed.
