Kicking and Screaming

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

TRIPPING & WHISPERING

I guess I am one of the few who do not find WILL FARRELL all that funny. "Elf was cute.”The Anchorman"< Not funny. "Kicking and Screaming" is in between. It's the bad news bears of soccer. Farrell becomes the coach of his son's team. That is the first mistake. Parents should never be coaches. He takes over the position from his father (ROBERT DUVALL_ on a bet. Of course you know that he is clueless about the game. To calm his nerves, he discovers coffee which leads to an endless boring running gag. In the process he hires his neighbor (MIKE DITKA) as his assistant. Wrong move. There are some funny moments involving two young brothers who have come from Italy to help their uncle in his meat market. But they can also play soccer very well. So Will makes a deal with their uncle to help cut meat so the kids can play. One of the standout kids is a little Chinese boy named Byong Sun (ELLIOT CHO), the smallest and shyest who turns into dynamite. Also along for the ride is KATE WALSH as the typecast wife who does her best to hold things together. JESSE DYLAN directed.   SEE YA AT THE MOVIES   CLYDE
