A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
A JOY TO SEE
"Kung Fu Hustle" is a movie that can be hard to explain. It's like a lot of different movies all rolled into one. It has violence, weird characters, dance numbers and a Jackie Chan like kung fu fighter, or should we say, want to be fighter. In Shanghai, China in the 1940's, we are introduced to the notorious "Axe Gang". Now the Axe Gang, you can guess why they got that name, terrorizes many towns. But they don't bother with one area where the people are too poor to have anything worthwhile, that is until a wannabe gangster pretends to be a member. and tries to take over this area. As word gets to the real gang, they appear and the fun begins. As they try to take over, they are confronted by an obnoxious landlady and her apparently frail husband who show extraordinary powers as they defend their turf. This film is a pure joy to watch. It is beyond your imagination. It stars STEPHEN CHOW, WAH YUAN QLU, and LEUNG SLU-LUNG and was directed by Chow. Be aware, there are some bloody scenes. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
