Millions

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

WONDERFUL & HEARTWARMING

Director DANNY BOYLE has given us some very offbeat films. These include "28 Days Later", "Trainspotting" and "Shallow Grave".  This time he has given us something very different. "Millions" is a sweet little story about two brothers, nine year old Anthony (LEWIS McGIBBON) and his seven year old sibling Damian ( ALEX ETEL, who reminds me of a young Elijah Wood_   Damian is a dreamer who imagines he talks to saints who are not really there. After their mother dies, they move into a new house with their dad. They soon learn that they can get free candy or cookies from any store owner just by putting on a sad face and announcing "Our mom's dead"  Then one day a bag of money drops from the sky. Lots of money. Damian is convinced that it came from God and he should help the poor with it. One very funny scene has Damian taking a group of street people to Pizza Hut.  Now the truth about the money is that in a few days it will be worthless. England is on the cusp of converting it into euros, so the money was thrown from a train to be burned. Also involved in all this is Damian having his conversations with the Saints and his dead mother in a real heart tugging scene.  We also meet an evil stranger (CHRISTOPHER FULFORD) who threatens the boys if they don't give him the money.    This is a wonderful little film that is not to be missed.  You will come away laughing and crying at the same time.
