Must Love Dogs

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

A LOVEABLE PUPPY

Let me put it this way, a little puppy will make you laugh, make you happy, and just plain feel good. Well, so does this movie. DIANE LANE plays Sarah Nolan, a newly divorced woman who lost her husband to a much younger woman. So she settles on the fact that she may be spending many lonely nights. But her two well meaning sisters (ELIZABETH PERKINS and ALI  HILLIS) have other plans for her. So they sign her up for an internet dating service. So Sarah has a session of dates that are bizarre and funny. These include a man who continually cries, and a dirty old man who only dates women in their twenties or younger. It reminded me of "Duce Bigalow". But she is attracted to only two men, a single parent (DERMOT MULRONEY) who's son is in her preschool class, and a boat builder (JOHN CUSACK) who is addicted to watching "Dr,Zhivago". The results all add up to a charming, loveable film that was directed by GARY DAVID GOLDBERG (TV’s "Family Ties" and "Spin City". The great cast also includes CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER as Sarah's dating dad and STOCKARD CHANNING as a sixty something internet dater who hooks up with him. The title of the film comes from the title of the dating service. Lane and Cusack play their roles so well that you root for them to be together and be happy forever. So fall in love again, see this movie. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES   CLYDE
