The Amityville Horror

A Film Review By Paul Perkins

A Good Horror Film

For anyone who is thinking about buying a house there is three things you should know about the house. 1. If the house is selling for 80,000 dollars and the house is worth 140,000 then something is not right. 2 make sure no one was killed in the house. 3 but not lease check the background of the house you are buying.

In 1979 there was a movie that came out in theaters that when I saw it as a kid it scary the daylight out of me. Till this day ever time I see a house that looks like it I get the chills. It was called The Amityville Horror and it was a true story about a haunted house. It was a success at the box office and became a cult for horror films to come.

That was 1979 and now it 2005 so Hollywood has thought let remake a lot of classic horror films last year it was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which was a great remake and it did not make the original film look bad. Next up to bat is the remake of The Amityville Horror.

For anyone who has not seen the 1979 version this new version is about the same topic. On November 13, 1974 a called came in to the local police which let them to 112 Ocean Avenue where a horrific crime has happen a whole family was killed while they slept. The Person who killed the family was there own son but he did it because he said the house told him to do it.

One year later a new family has brought the house the Lutz Family George (Ryan Reynolds), Kathy (Melissa George) and their children. They think they found their dream house. Shortly after settle in bizarre and unexplainable events begins to occur within the house that they can not explain.

I like the 1979 version I thought it was nicely made. Now with the 2005 version I like it as well call me crazy I know the film got some bad reviews esp. by our other critic here at The King’s Room. But I like it and will stand by it I must been in a crazy mood when I seen it but I thought it had some good moments when it makes me jump out of my seat.

The house looks creepy like the first one did of course the problem most people will have is they will compare it to the first one do not compare it to the first one this is a new version of the classic movie. If you do you will like the film better. This is for you parents out there if you hired a babysitter for your kids do not hired one like the one in this film. She can get an award for the worst babysitter in the world.

Overall The Amityville Horror was a good scary movie esp. when this movie season where the horror films have been very bad. Thanks god for a good horror film.
