The Jacket

A Play Review By Clyde Ayles

NOT A GREAT FIT

The Jacket is an interesting concept.   We start out during the gulf war where Jack Starks (academy winner ADRIEN BRODY) who is shot by a fugitive young boy who he is trying to help. The picture moved us to 1992 where Jack, suffering from recurring amnesia is adrift in Vermont. as he walks gown the road, he comes across an eight year old girl and her mother whose truck has broken down. He fixes the truck, but then is left behind as the mother takes off. Next he is offered a ride by a stoned driver (BRAD RENVEW) anyone remembers him?  They are stopped by a cop who Brad shoots and kills, being killed in return. Jack is arrested and charged with the crime but is declared insane. He is sent to Dr. Becker (the eerie KRIS KRISTOFFERSON) who uses a strange means of therapy. He fills Jack with loads of drugs then puts him in a dark morgue body drawer. While in there Jack's mind travels to the future. He is in 2007 where he meets a strange young girl (KEIRA KNIGHTLEY) who carries a very strange secret.  The film goes back and forth to the two times. I have always been fascinated with time travel so I found this film to be interesting, but not great.  The movie also stars JENNIFER JASON LEIGH a good actress who we haven't seen for awhile.   Director John Maybury did his job well; you just have to really pay close attention.
