A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
ON THE MONEY
First, let me start off by saying that AL PACINO is possibly one of the best actors ever. Anything he touches turns to gold. In "Two For The Money" he plays Walter, a former? gambler who runs a sports hotline. This is big business. He discovers Brandon, (MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY) who is a Las Vegas odds maker. He imports him to New York to "star" on his show. Brandon goes through a complete change, name, hair, wardrobe. RENE RUSSO is Walter's wife, a recovering junkie who loves her husband. Walter's show has men manning the hot lines where for $25.00 you get the early line for your weekend bets. With Brandon on board, things fly to the top. Then we also have the triangle between the three main characters that leads to some very tense moments. At one point Brandon makes a bad call. This leads to disaster. All three of the stars do their jobs well, but the standout is Pacino. In one scene he makes a speech at a Gambler's Anonymous meeting that is a standout. I will not say more for fear of giving things away. I will just add that enjoy it while you are on top, it may not last long.. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
