War of the Worlds

A Film Review By Paul Perkins

We Are Under Attack!  Another Summer Blockbuster

Are there other life forms out there in space? That is the question that scientist would love to answer but no one has the answer to it. What if there were other life forms out there and they like our planet we live on and what to destroy us all to take off the planet what can we do to stop them.

That is the premise behind the new telling of a classic film called War of the Worlds. It stars Tom Cruise stars as Ray Ferrier, a divorced dockworker and less-than-perfect father. Soon after his ex-wife (Miranda Otto) and her new husband drop off his teenage son  Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and young daughter Rachel (Dakota Fanning) for a rare Weekend visit, a strange and powerful lightning storm touches down.  Moments later, at an intersection near his house, Ray witnesses an extraordinary event that will change all their lives forever.  A towering three-legged war machine  Emerges from deep beneath the earth and, before anyone can react, incinerates everything in sight.  An ordinary day has suddenly become the most extraordinary event of their lifetimes – the first strike in a catastrophic alien attack on Earth.

War of the Worlds is the third big summer blockbuster film right behind Star Wars Episode 3, Batman Begins and if I rank them it would be third. War of the Worlds was good film it every thing a summer blockbuster has but it not a five star film because of couple of key points the first half It too much of a disaster film which we have seen many times before. Second is Tom Cruise I just don’t see him as a great actor if they got someone else to play in this film it might have gotten a better rating.

What made this film get 4 stars is the special effects of course which plays a big part in this film was outstanding of course it looks much different from the 50’s version of the film the effects looks better in this one of course. Second is Dakota Fanning aka Young Julia Roberts she did an outstanding job in her role and she made it very believable. You feel bad for what she is going through and you pray for her to make it through. Also she did an outstanding job standing up to Tom Cruise spotlight which is a feat all it own.

Overall War of the Worlds was a great summer blockbuster it could have been a five star film but it miss it by a little. Next Week the next Blockbuster comes out and let me tell you about it. I can’t wait to next week to tell you all about it.
