Annapolis

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

NOTHING NEW

If you took Rocky Balboa, put him in the naval academy, gave him a "full metal jacket" and let him do the script from "Taps", you would have "Annapolis". This movie is so full of other movies it should be listed as several movies. We have Jake Huard (JAMES FRANCO) as an unlikely academy freshman (or plebe) who is harrased by his commanding officer (TYRESE GIBSON) who never lets up. Remember "Officer and a Gentleman"? We also have the overwieght misfit who has no faith in himself and tries to kill himself. Remember "Taps" and "Full Metal Jacket"? Oh yeah, Jake is a boxer who has a chance to square off against his tormenter, Gibson. Like Rocky and Apollo Creed? Also, let's add the father who never beleived in his son, but shows up at the last minute to support his son. Almost every movie of this sort. Let's not forget that there is also a romance between Jake and a female officer, I was in the navy and don't think this would happen. This film, directed by JUSTIN LIN< is one huge cliche. We've seen it all before. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
