A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

HIGH OCTANE, FULL TANK
I have been taken to task for putting down some of
the new computer animated movies. Well, as far as I am concerned,
they deserved it. I have stated that the good old fashioned hand
drawn movies, like the Disney classics had solid storys, academy
award winning music, and appealed to young and old alike. Some of
the new animated films lack all of this. But every once in awhile
one comes along that catches my attention. There was "Shrek" "Toy
Story", "The Incredibles" to name a few. Well now we have "Cars", a
new Disney release along with Pixar. First, the film is visually
stunning. The cars, the people of the story have personalities. I
actually found myself caring and cheering for them. Lightning
Mcqueen (voiced by OWEN WILSON) is a self centered race car that
needs to always be racing to show he is top gun. The last name is a
tribute to the late actor Steve Mc Queen who was also a race car
enthusiast. On his way to a race Lightning is sidetracked on a
beatup portion of Route 66 in a town called Rusty Springs. There he
meets all sorts of characters like Sally Carrera {voice of BONNIE
HUNT}, a sexy 2002 Porshe , a rusty old tow truck named Mater, Tow
Mater, get it? (voice by LARRY THE CABLE GUY), and Doc Hudson, a
vintage 1951 Hudson Hornet (my older brothers first car). Doc is
voiced by PAUL NEWMAN the great actor who is also a race car driver.
As it all comes together, Lightning finally enters a big race, but
on the way he learns some very valuble lessons. Stay
for the end credits for some surprises. It"s a fine tribute to
other Pixar films. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
