A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

There have been a lot of "spoof" movies. These of course are films that make fun of other movies. Some of the best have been "Airplane'. 'Hot Shots", and the "Scary Movie" films.        Now playing in theatres is "Date Movie", a really bad . only sometime funny movie.  ALYSON HANNIIGAN. who should not try to carry a film on her own, plays Janet Jones, a really overweight girl who is starved for love. The opening scenes of her dancing down the street trying to flirt and the reaction of the men are some of the few funny scenes in this straining for a laugh movie.  She has all sorts of disgusting treatments done to her to make her thin and pretty. It works, sort of.   She is interested in a young man and pursues him and he proposes marriage. They visit a wedding planner, a take off on Jennifer Lopez, complete with oversize you know what.    Janet meets the best man of her soon to be husband. Only the best man turns out to be a gilrl, and what a girl, who happens to be an old flame of his. Ther are elements of "Meet The Parents", "Wedding Planner'  and you name it, it's there. But it isn' very funny.  Trying their best to make something of thi wreck is FRED WILLARD and EDDIE GRIFFIN. But they can't save a sinking ship. Oh, just for good measure, they throw in a scene from the new "King Kong". That film was bad enough on it's own,  so did we really need it?    This farce was directed by ARRON SELTZER. Shame on you.      SEE YA AT THE MOVIES    CLYDE
