A Film Review By Paul Perkins
A Slam Dunk There are
dates in history you will never forget like? December 1955 When Rosa
Parks she refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white
passenger, on August 28,1963 Dr Martin Luther King Made the Speech
on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C and On March
19, 1966, coach Don Haskins made history when his Texas Western
College mens basketball team that included five African-American
starters stunned and defeated the heavily favored, and all-white
Wildcats of the University of Kentucky, coached by basketball legend
Adolph Rupp.
Glory Road" tells the inspiring true story of the underdog Texas
Western basketball team, with history's first all African American
starting lineup of players, who took the country by storm,
surprisingly winning the 1966 NCAA tournament title. Josh Lucas
stars as Hall of Famer Don Haskins, the passionately dedicated
college basketball coach that changed the history of basketball with
his team's victory in this time of innocence.
Well it is now 2006 and I hope everyone had a good 2005 and a better
2006. The new movie season is among us and Jan is usually not a good
month for films. But Jan has so far been looking good with some good
films that came out. Last week it was Hostel and the ok Bloodrayne.
This week we have some more good film Last Holiday and This film
Glory Road.
Glory Road was a good film I like these types of film because they
are base on true stories and show how the strong the human sprit is
no matter the odds against them. The story was produce by Jerry
Bruckheimer who makes a lot of action movies and most of them are
all good. He does a great job of bring drama movies as well as crime
TV show (CSI, Cold Case). So when I hear a film which his name
associates with it I have to check it out.
The story was very good the only thing bad about it was the
beginning I thought it was going to be like any other base on true
stories sport movies. But after a little bit the story change and
got very good. The acting was very good esp by Josh Lucas who was
outstanding as the head coach (He makes up for heritable movie
called Stealth). And also Derek Luke who I think is the next Denzel
Washington he has been making some great film like Antwone Fisher
and Pieces of April, I meet him in person he is a very nice actor.
I am not a sport person but the basketball scenes were all
outstanding and some intense you will clap during some of the sport
scenes. The film did not have no boring scenes and the cast all work
great together. Overall if you are looking for a good movie where
you get your money worth watching a great story and great actors
then Glory Road is the film for you.
