IT REALLY SINKS
In 1972 director Ronald Neame gave us an exciting, emotion filled movie "The
Poseidon Adventure".. It concerned a cruise ship that was turned upside down by
a monsterous wave. In the center of this tragedy we met several people who
tried to find their way out to safety. We learned enough about these people to
care if they made it or not. We even cheered when they were saved at the end of
the movie, even though they all did not make it. Now here we are in 2006 and we
have a remake directed by WOLFGANG PETERSON (The Perfect Storm). My question is
where did he go wrong. This version starring JOSH LUCAS, KURT RUSSELL, RICHARD
DREYFUSS, and the very attractive EMMY ROSSUM (Phantom Of The Opera) is a dud.
This movie sank faster than the ship. Oh, the effects are good, but that is
it. Peterson does not take enough time to really introduce us to the
characters. Not once did I care if they made it out safely. They were no more
than cardboard posters to me. And the ending? Another let down and nowhere
ending. Mr. Peterson, what happened? Rent the 1972 version. trust me. SEE
