A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
GOOD MOVES Based on a true story of real life dancer Pierre Dulaine (played with flair by ANTONIO BANDERAS) who volunteers to teach a group of inner city kids the art of ballroom dancing. He feels that teaching these kids the waltz, the tango and such will bring them to understand how the passion and hard work will give them a better life. He even allows them to mix their hip hop with ballads such as "They Can't Take That Away From Me" an old Fred Astaire tune. It works very well. There are a lot of ups and downs as he prepares the group for the 25th anual Grand Ballroom competition in New York City. The kids have many personal problems, such as overweight to drug problems and a streetwalking mother. One standout is Rock, who is saved from a life of drug dealing by Pierre. ROB BROWN of "Finding Forrester" is just right as Rock. ALFRE WOODARD has the stilted thankless role as the school principle. She could have done better if the role was better. The dance nunbers are a wow to watch. Also a great soundtrack. LIZ FRIEDLANDER, who directed music videos for U2, CELINE dION, and R.E.M. shows she has really grown into the big time. Let's hope we see more work like this from her. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES Clyde What Did You Think About The Film E-mail us Your Comments About The Film © 2006 Clyde Ayles
