The Illusionist

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles
MAGIC
In 1900 Vienna, Eisenheim ( EDWARD NORTON) is a great well known Illusionist
who does a lot with the supernatural. When we first meet him he is a young boy
who learns magic and falls for a beautiful young girl. They are seperated and
the years go by. Now he is the sensation of Vienna. One evening while performing
a new trick, he meets his lost love again. Now Sophie (JESSICA BEAL) is a mature
lady who is promised to Crown Prince Leopold (RUFUS SEWELL). Our Illusionist
tries every trick he can to win back Sophie, not aware that Leopold knows what
is going on. The Prince hires his most trusted lawman, Chief Inspector Uhl (PAUL
GIAMATTI) to find out anything he can on the magician and his love
affair. This leads to the murder of Sophie by the prince. Or does it?
The twist at the end provides Eisenheim with his greatest trick ever. This
is a wonderful mixture of magic, suspense and love story. It will hold your
attention all through the 1 hour and forty minutes. NEIL BURGER does a right
on the nose directing job. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE
