The Night Listener

A Film Review By Clyde Ayles

A MIND TEASER

ROBIN WILLIAMS is  late night talk show host Gabriel Noone. He developes a running conservation with a 14 year old boy who tells about his abusive life and is very sick. Noone also talks to the boy's adoptive mother. But somewhere along the line things become very strange.  Does the boy Peter (RORY CAULKIN} really excist?  In his search for answers our talk show host finds many barriers and strange facts. He meets the mother (TONI COLLETTE) who is blind, or is she? We also learn that Noone is gay and is having trouble with his lover, although I don't know what this has to do with the story. Who cares?  Wherever he goes no one will let him see the boy. His friend (SANDRA OH} explains it all by telling him there are people who are so lonely they invent situations and false people.         There are some interesting moments, but all in all there is not much substance to the film.  Williams, to me, always has the same expression when he plays serious roles. Like the kid who is about to cry. Wait for the dvd.     SEE YA AT THE MOVIES    CLYDE
