A WORTHY REMAKE
In 1976 director Richard Donner gave us a very
disturbing portrait of Satan's offspring. It left a few viewers
shaking as they left the theatre Well, now in theatres is director
JOHN MOORE'S version of "The Omen" and it does justice to the
original. JULIA STILES is Katherine Thorn, the wife of Robert (LIEV
SCHREIBER) a high ranking goverment official on the rise who is
heartbroken when he is informed that his son died during childbirth.
Finding that his wife does not know this, he makes a deal with the
devil. A priest tells the grieving father that he should take a baby
whose mother died at childbirth and has no family. The man agrees
and keeps it a secret from his wife making her beleive that this is
her son. As the years go by the boy ,Damien, (new
comer SEAMUS DAVEY-FITZPATRIC) grows into a very strange little boy.
Bad things happen when he is around, very bad things, like his
nanny hanging herself at his birthday party while claiming "This is
all for you Damien". Into the picture comes MIA FARROW as
the new nanny who appears to have ties with the devil. She should
know about this, since she gave birth to the devil's son in the very
good "Rosemary's Baby" Ther are some really scary, heartstopping
scenes as Damien proceeds to end lives and take the world. They are
highlighted by pounding music. The film also has some strong
performances by DAVID THEWLIS, PETE POSTLETHWAITE, and MICHAEL
GAMBON, DAVID SELTZER, who wrote the original script, also does
this film with a few variations. This is surely a worthy
remake. SEE YA AT THE MOVIES CLYDE.
