First Sunday

A Film Review By Paul Perkins

A Ok Sunday Service

Well it's 2008 which means another movie year has passed and it a new group of films that is going to come out during the next 12 months. Last week we had a bad horror film called One Missed Call which was a typical horror film that made me mad. The Next film up is called First Sunday and it is helmed by a first time director who happens to be a big Play director.

First Sunday is Durell (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan) are best friends and bumbling petty criminals. When told they have one week to pay a $17,000 debt or Durell will lose his son, they come up with a desperate scheme to rob their neighborhood church. Instead, they end up spending the night in the presence of the Lord and are forced to deal with much more than they bargained for.

First Sunday has a all star cast there is a lot of comedians in this film there is Cedic the Entertainer, Tracy Morgan and Katt Williams. the problems is that this film is PG-13 so you have all the big guns of comedy and they can not speak they mind and let loose on the comedy. Mostly by Katt Williams he is a very funny man and if you ever what any of his stand up stuff you will know he is a funny man.

The Story was ok nothing to write home about but it was watchable it could be a little bit better the film did feel like a play more than a movie. The acting was the best part of the movie next to the comedy of the film.
The Eye candy from Malinda Williams was a nice touch and it help the film a little bit. The Music of the film was very good esp the gospel scenes had me movie my feet and was about to sing. Overall I am keeping this film review short. with the new season of movie upon us this is a ok start of the season. There will be many great films coming out later on in the year.
